Rachelle
Behrens - Vocals and Percussion
Personal
Background:
Born in Ottawa, Rachelle
has studied music for the majority of her life. She is of Chilean
heritage, which some think gives her that natural soul and feel
for music that has stood her in good stead for so many years.
Musical Background:
Rachelle Behrens started dabbling on the piano at
5 years of age, then drums at 14. However, Rachelle started
singing in the womb! Her mother and OBGYN thought they were
going crazy, but soon realized that it wasn’t a poltergeist,
indigestion, excess gas, or anything other than Rachelle’s
little voice percolating through her mom’s abdomen that
they were hearing.
After some 20 years, Rachelle started singing in bands and
although Rachelle still enjoys playing the drums and keys,
she has found her musical calling. She grew up listening to
Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin
and many Latin American artists, including Mercedes Sosa.
Rachelle has performed in practically every live music venue
in and around Ottawa and has opened for the likes of the 5
Man Electrical Band and Jeff Healey. She has played with numerous
bands in Ottawa including; The Brian Downey Band(s), The Soul
Review Board and a multitude of others.
Rachelle is always performing with one band or another in and
around Ottawa. She is currently also packaging her first solo
demo. Always writing music, she will continue to do so, till
she has nothing left to say.
Musical Influences:
Currently Rachelle listens to a mix of The Police, the Dave
Matthews Band, Paul Simon, Big Wreck, Gypsy Kings, Stevie Wonder,
Tower of Power and The Buena Vista Social Club. Vocally, Rachelle
admires Ella Fitzgerald, Whitney Houston, Bonnie Raitt, Etta
James, and many more.
The FunKtion:
Rachelle joined The FunKtion in the spring of 2004 and was
so impressed by the amount of talent in the room, she decided
that this was the project she had been waiting to be part of, for years. Since joining that band, Rachelle has made it her
personal goal to keep The FunKtion machine moving, grooving and growing… |
