Denis Turkanovic - Keyboards

Personal Background:

Denis was born and raised in Europe where he started his music journey at the age of five. His father, an accordion teacher, helped him to discover a beautiful world of music, which quickly became part of Denis’ life.

Musical Background:

Denis studied classical accordion and piano at a conservatory of music.  Right after his graduation, he joined a popular music ensemble and toured all across Europe. In 1995 Denis moved to Canada where he continued being active in music.  He started showing interest in jazz and became a member of Bishop’ Jazz Ensemble.  During his student years, he played with several jazz and R&B bands and performed on various stages in Montreal and Lennoxville. Before joining “The FunKtion”, Denis performed with several successful bands from Ottawa and Toronto including “The Song Remains The Same”, “Groovebox” and “Aeroforce”.  He also did extensive studio work recording for several bands and artists.

Musical Influences:

Denis grew up listening to Jamiroquai, Incognito and Brand New Heavies.  Some of his favorite jazz artists are Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett and Jimmy Smith.
